Louisa County Resource Council Celebrates Completion of Amazon-Funded Rooftop Solar Project at "POWERING MORE" Event

Amazon's investment in LCRC's Supplemental Solar Panel Project expected to save approximately $1,000 per month — the equivalent of nearly 48,000 additional meals each year

LOUISA, VA — The Louisa County Resource Council (LCRC) celebrated the completion of its Supplemental Solar Panel Project at a special event titled “POWERING MORE,” held at the LCRC warehouse in Louisa, Virginia. The event brought together community partners, local leaders, and supporters to recognize a milestone that will strengthen LCRC’s ability to serve Louisa County families for years to come.

The project was made possible by a $135,000 grant from Amazon, which fully funded the installation of additional rooftop solar panels needed to bring LCRC’s facility to its full solar capacity. LCRC first added solar to its Warehouse 2 in 2021, and this latest investment completes the buildout across the remainder of the complex.

“As demand for our services increases, so do our energy needs. This investment from Amazon will have a tremendous impact on keeping our energy costs manageable so that we can focus on serving our neighbors in need,” said Elizabeth Goodwin, Executive Director of LCRC.

The energy savings are expected to translate to nearly 48,000 additional meals each year for Louisa County families — a powerful example of how sustainability and community service go hand in hand. The impact of the project extends beyond energy. According to LCRC, the solar installation is expected to save approximately $1,000 on the organization’s monthly utility bill. For a nonprofit that operates a 15,000-square-foot facility with more than a dozen freezer and refrigeration units, those savings are significant, and they go right back into serving the community.

“Organizations like LCRC are the backbone of their communities, feeding thousands of families and providing essential services that so many Louisa County residents depend on,” said Lisa Schooley, Regional Community Engagement Manager at Amazon. “We’re proud to support their goals so they can keep doing what they do best — serving their neighbors. When we invest in sustainability alongside partners like LCRC, the impact goes far beyond energy savings. It’s about ensuring these vital programs can continue for years to come.”

For more than 30 years, LCRC has been the primary source of free food in Louisa County, serving nearly 4,000 clients each month through its five food programs, Community Closet, and dental and transportation assistance programs.
