Valley Link Transmission invites the public to learn and share feedback on Joshua Falls–Yeat electric transmission line project

  • The joint venture between Dominion Energy, Transource Energy and FirstEnergy Transmission is developing comprehensive solutions to reliably serve growing power demand.
  • The Joshua Falls–Yeat electric transmission line project will strengthen Virginia’s electric grid and provide a reliable backbone for a growing economy and population.
  • Community open houses will be held across Central Virginia to share information about the project and seek public input on proposed routes.

RICHMOND, Va. (February 13, 2026) — A first in a series of community open houses and stakeholder meetings will kick off later this month to share information and receive community feedback about the proposed Joshua Falls–Yeat electric transmission project.

The project is being developed by the Valley Link Transmission Company, a joint venture between Dominion Energy, FirstEnergy Transmission, LLC and Transource Energy, LLC (a partnership between American Electric Power and Evergy). The proposed project includes approximately 115 miles of new 765-kilovolt electric transmission lines, expansion of the Joshua Falls Substation in Campbell County, Virginia, and a new proposed substation in Culpeper County, Virginia.

“This project is essential for Virginia’s economy, the reliability of our grid, and the everyday lives of our customers. As our economy and population grow, Virginians are using more power than ever before. This project will strengthen the electric grid and provide a reliable backbone to serve the growing needs of homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses across Virginia,” said Joe Woomer, a Valley Link Transmission Board of Manager and Dominion Energy’s Senior Vice President of Electric Transmission.

Woomer added, “Involving the community in project planning makes for a better project. The current transmission routes being evaluated will be refined based on public input gathered through stakeholder meetings, public open houses and landowner engagement.”

Power demand in Virginia is projected to double in the next 20 years, the largest growth since the post-World War II boom. The demand is fueled by a growing population, electrification, industrial expansion and data center growth. The Joshua Falls–Yeat project is a vitally important upgrade to Virginia’s electric grid to ensure there is enough reliable power to meet Virginia’s growing needs for decades to come.

The final route for the project has not yet been selected and will be finalized later this year based on community input, extensive surveys, and thorough study of environmental, cultural and historic resources. Preliminary routes cross up to nine counties between Campbell County and Culpeper County.

Collaboration with local communities is essential to making informed routing decisions and minimizing potential impacts. Valley Link will begin holding community open houses and stakeholder meetings this month to share routing options and hear feedback from residents, community leaders and other stakeholders.
